The Stripey Shirt Dress

I think men’s wear on women was cool, is cool, and always will be cool. I love a shirt dress because there is something effortlessly chic about it. You literally just throw it on! I like the bowler hat because it adds to the menswear theme and I feel like Charlie Chaplin, or Winston Churchill #winwin. These lacey biker shorts add some grunge along with the cherry Docs. This ensemble is ideal for a lazy weekend. Cheers!

I am allergic to cats, but boy do I love Charlotte Olympia kitty flats. Charlotte Olympia, you sure know how to make feet swoon. These “Sunkissed Kitty flats” were the black friday score of the century. These bad boys retail for nearly $700, I got them 90% off at Nordy’s – at 3pm. They were the only CO shoes in the store. In my size. It was providence. I think a proper cat lady should always have a furry cardi or overcoat. This multi-color, or calico, if you will (*pun*), does the job! On another note, how Risky Business is this shirt dress?! May the new year bring you great deals on shoes and other goodies!

Hey There, Sanderson Sister!

Happy Monday, friends! California is always a tad hesitant to bring us fall, but I think it’s starting to get keen on the idea. Today’s high was a whopping 72! Pretty decent, California. I will take it! Speaking of ‘le fall’, I am all about watching autumnal movies to get into the spirit.  Whether it’s a scary movie, a cozy movie (You’ve Got Mail anyone!? Can I get a HEYYY), or a cheesy Halloween movie from your childhood, like, say… Hocus Pocus! This movie is all about the theatrics and hackneyed Salem history, but I think that’s why I like it so much. Plus! I love the Stevie Nicks/Sanderson sister look! My outfit today was not picked out without these factors in mind. I’m trying to channel SJP! The pretty witch! I hope your Halloween week is fun and full of hocus pocus!

Wishful Wanting List

Crosley Radio Cruiser Turntable Turquoise – I have an old record player, but it is finally broken and it was not portable. I like the idea of being able to take my player in tow to the beach! I wanna have a beach blanket bingo! This record player will do perfectly for a faux vintage lifestyle.

The Cambridge Satchel” – These satchels are iconic. They are to bags what the moleskin is to notebooks. I just want to fill this baby with leather bound journals and calling cards. This mint color is on trend and will be lovely for centuries.

Take a Dipper Necklace” – I love the little dipper! It’s the constellation that is always easy for me to find. I am a huge fan of dainty pendants. I’d like to rep the Lil’ D on my neck.

In Bonjour Dreams Pillowcase Set– French writing is always fun and chic. I do parle the french, so I like to keep frenchie things around me. These pillows have a great typography charm and they would go with any bed spread set.

Living Myth Perfect Jewelry Holder” – This ‘jackelope’ creature is very curious to me. I swear they are mythical, but Si Robertson from Duck Dynasty suggests otherwise. I have been loving using little dishes as homes for my jewelry. This one is both pretty and fun – it twill look nice on my dressing table.

Charlotte OLympia Tumbled Suede Sleeping Kitty Loafers – These cat flats are PRI-CAY, but a girl can dream. I love the luxurious velvet and kitty print. It’s the perfect combo of kitch and chic. I really am not a fan of les cats in general, but I like them on clothing and fanny packs – call me cray cray, I don’t give a sheist.

Top Knots and Bowler Hats, A Love Story

I have always thought what is on your head is more important than what’s in it.  Who cares how smart you are when you look baller in your bowler? Or like a princess with a hugeass bun on your head?

Both are great for bad hair days and just lookin’ plain bitchin.’  Hopefully the middle schooler won’t catch on with these trends like they did with combat boots… (no comment).

First of all, you may ask: How does one achieve an elegant and ridiculously large knot on your head? Sockbun anyone? Yea, it doesn’t work… that chick from Eastern Europe on Youtube is cray, cray.  I have my own way (may differ for each hair type)….

Image Detail

Steps for Top Knot:

1) Get an elastic head band, (so you have a lot of band to use on your pony tail), and form an ordinary ponytail, pretty high on your head, depending how high you want your knot. (note: with all the wrapping from the elastic, your ponytail should have a pretty thick band around it and look like I Dream of Jeannie).

2)  Take the hair in your pony tail and tease as needed, (the teasing helps with volume).

3) Lightly brush your backcombed hair and wrap it into a loose bun.

4) Secure with an elastic or bobby pins (I just use one elastic).

5) Final step, adjust hair to your liking and spray lightly with a strong hold hairspray.

AND, it can be however messy or neat as you wish… the rogue in me likes it a tiny bit tousled and casual.

How to look baller in your bowler?

1) Buy a hat from Urban Outfitters, some overpriced hipster vintage store, the ghetto mall, and/or Sears.

2) (The baller part depends on your self esteem – get some).

Still not convinced to wear one… ?  Think of all the ballers who wore bowler hats:

Charlie Chaplin, who had babies well into his 70, what’s not baller about that?

The effing Wright brothers… plane travel, baller.

Wright Brothers

Winston Churchill… super quoted dead Brit…

Madonna, we would have no Lady Gaga if it weren’t for Madonna…

AND that guy in the painting with the apple… super chill piece of art y’all…

So there you have it, buy a bowler.

Peace and blessings, and top off that head.

Halloween as Charlie Chaplin…

So for Halloween I dressed up as Charlie Chaplin… there were some third reich jokes, but nothing too bad. The thing that upset me most was the amount of people who didn’t know who Charlie Chaplin was! Not only was he one of the first movie stars… but really a pop culture icon…. his mustache, his suits, clown shoes, and cane… Gee whiz, some people could use a little culture in their lives….

So here is a little video we filmed of me singing one of my favorite songs “Creep” by Radiohead as Mr. Chaplin… hope you enjoy.

AND of course Happy Halloween…  BOO!
